UNC Pembroke’s Perspectives on the Civil War Era Series continues with “Civil War Songs and Stories: An Evening of Music, Poetry, Speeches, and Photographs” on Thursday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Moore Hall.
The program will feature the University Chorale, conducted by Dr. José Rivera, as well as musical perform- ances and readings by students and faculty from the departments of Music and History. A slideshow of period photographs will accompany the presentation.
The concert, a joint production of the Departments of Music and History, is free and open to the public.
According to history professor Dr. Jaime Martinez, who directs the Civil War Series, the concert “will share a broad array of musical styles and perspectives, including rallying songs and soldiers’ laments, slave spirituals and lyric poetry, and a debate among the 1860 presidential candidates.”
