Counseling & Psychological Services

MISSION

The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to provide clinical mental health services to support the well-being and academic success of students and contribute to a healthy campus climate. This is accomplished by providing individual and group counseling, crisis management, consultation and referral services, and prevention education to the campus community.

SERVICES

Counseling is available to all students virtually or in-person. You can schedule counseling services by calling CAPS or coming in person to the Brave Health Center, 2nd floor. Counseling services include psychotherapy groups, individual counseling, and medication management. Consultation and referrals are also available.

Triage/Walk-In services are available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. These 30-minute sessions connect UNCP students with support from experienced counselors from CAPS without an appointment. This session involves a meeting between a student and a therapist to address their concerns and explore available options. Following this discussion and the therapist's assessment of the provided paperwork, recommendations for services will be made. These recommendations may include but not limited to, self-help resources, workshops, brief goal-oriented individual therapy, or group therapy. It is advised to arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment to complete the necessary paperwork.

Advocacy services are free and confidential for any students who are survivors of, or accused of, sexual misconduct including stalking, rape, bullying, cyber stalking etc.

Crisis Services are available through our Protocall 24-hour crisis line at 910.775.4749. Crisis services are also available in the office (2nd floor, Brave Health Center) from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Prevention Education Programs are offered throughout the year and address topics to include suicide prevention, substance use prevention, stress management, mindfulness, student wellness and mental health stigma.
