Dr. Frederick came to the UNCP in 1988.  Since then, he has taught a variety of economics courses at both the undergraduate and masters levels, including Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Statistics I and II, Money and Banking, International Economics, Health Economics, Labor Economics, Public Finance, Managerial Economics, and Introduction to Econometrics.  He has also taught Health Economics for the Masters in Public Administration.

Dr. Frederick has served the University on several administrative and faculty committees, including the Faculty Senate.  He also served a year as interim Chairman of the Business Administration.

He received his doctorate in Economics in 1983 from Wayne State University in Detroit with fields of International Finance, Econometrics, and Labor.  After receiving his Ph.D., he spent a year teaching economics at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and then four years as a senior research statistician at the Michigan Cancer Foundation.  His current area of research is an analysis of the medical tourism industry.  He has contributed to research articles in the Review of Applied Economics, the Journal of Asia-Pacific Business, and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Jim is married and has two children.
