The Department of Art with each of our accredited programs is designed to prepare students for professional and critical participation in contemporary life. We offer Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees, as well as three minors.
In addition to traditional studio programs such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics and Sculpture, the Department also offers instruction in Art Education, Art History, and Digital and Integrated Media.
Our diverse faculty and student body work together to form a dynamic and challenging learning experience. Faculty are committed to the growth and success of our students, many of whom receive university honors and awards each semester.
While participating in an exciting academic program, students also have opportunities to build a portfolio, study abroad, exhibit their work, participate in student and professional organizations, and interact with visiting artists and scholars.
Along with a strong commitment to personalized teaching, each faculty member maintains a competitive practice while seeking ways to promote artistic and educational opportunities for our students.
Studio facilities, equipment and technologies are constantly upgraded, affording our students the most current experience possible in the classroom and studio environment.
Our program has received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), one of only five schools in North Carolina to receive this distinction, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
