BIO

William “Rick” Crandall earned a B.S. degree in Hotel/Restaurant Administration from Florida State University in 1978.  Over the next decade, he worked in the restaurant and contract foodservice industry in various management capacities.  He later earned his M.B.A. (1988) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees from the University of Memphis.  Dr. Crandall taught for eleven years at Concord College in Athens, WV.  During his tenure, he developed an interest in crisis management and served on the college’s crisis management team.  His publications on organizational crises have appeared in SAM Advanced Management Journal, The Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, Southern Business Review, Academy of Strategic and Organizational Leadership Journal, Journal of Business in Developing Nations, Internal Auditing, Security Management and Central Business Review.  In addition, Dr. Crandall speaks frequently on crisis management to groups both on and off campus.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

 

Dr. Crandall’s research interests lie primarily in the area of organizational crisis management.  He is author of the book, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape (2009), along with co-authors, Drs. John Parnell and Jack Spillan.  This book is available through SAGE publications. 

Dr. Crandall also has an interest in looking at organizational effectiveness, particularly in terms of critical success factors.  His book, New Methods of Competing in the Marketplace: Critical Success Factors from Service and Manufacturing (2008), co-authored with his father, Dr. Richard E.Crandall, looks at how organizational effectiveness is enhanced when service and manufacturing sector companies take the time to learn best practices from each other.  This book is published by CRC Press, a Taylor and Francis Group company. 

Dr. Crandall and his father have also written the book, Principles of Supply Chain Management (2010), along with colleague Charlie Chen.  This book is also available through Taylor and Francis.
