Participant Responsibilities

As a student at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, it is your responsibility to attend class, take notes, and do your assigned work. The tutoring sessions offered through the Tutoring Program are supplemental assistance in addition to contact with professors during class and office hours.

Once you have received your session confirmation, you must attend your session on a weekly basis. If you are absent for three sessions, your space may be given to someone else. In addition, as a participant of the Tutoring Program, you agree to the following program guidelines:

  • I will be prepared for my tutoring sessions by completing all course assignments (i.e. readings, homework, lab reports, etc) prior to the session as well as bringing my textbook, notes and questions to each session.
  • I will notify the Center for Academic Excellence's Tutoring Program at (910) 775-4393 at least one day before a scheduled study session if I am not able to attend. In the event that I must cancel a session, I understand that I am only allowed to cancel a tutoring session twice during the semester, but may miss no more than a maximum of three times.
  • I will notify the Center for Academic Excellence's Tutoring Program at (910) 775-4393 if I no longer need a tutoring session(s).
  • I understand that tutoring sessions are not a substitution for classroom instruction. I agree to attend class.
  • I understand that my tutor is not expected to do my work for me. The Tutor can explain material, review assignments, help me prepare for tests, give guidance in writing papers and provide supplemental materials if available. Tutors do not re-teach course material.

If you have any questions regarding the program's guidelines, please contact the Tutor Coordinator at 910.775.4393.
