Undergraduate Student Organizations

  • UNCP Model United Nations

We have a very strong Model United Nations program here at University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Model United Nations is a conference in which we represent a country and engage in debate and dialogue with students from other universities. Model UN is a great way to add to a resume and develop real skills that translate into a career.

Students who participate quickly find that they can’t wait until the next conference because of the friends they make. One student shared how “I love international relations and with my major concentration being International studies, Model UN is a great and fun way to learn more about different regions. What I love most about Model UN is the fun debates and the networking, because of Model UN I have friends all over the country, from Texas to Alabama!”

UNCP participates in two main conferences, one in Atlanta in the Fall and one in Charlotte in the spring. The program attends other conferences, such as the Model Arab League, as well.

Our Model UN program also wins awards. At the 2022 Model UN in Atlanta, we received awards for Best Delegate (Aspen Andersson), Distinguished Delegation (Norway, including Aspen Andersson, Kristian Johnson, and Tyree Hilliard), and Honorable Delegate (Anesu Mavhiya). At the 2023 conference in Charlotte, we won the award for Outstanding Position Paper and Honorable Delegation, while Aspen Andersson was named outstanding chair.

We look forward to continuing to grow the program and recruit students who want real-world experiences that can help them pursue their goals.
