Step-by-step: registering for resnet

This information applies to students living in University Housing residence halls, Village Apartments and University Courtyard Apartments.

To register your computer with ResNet, you should be in your own dorm or apartment.

In compliance with the UNCP policy, students are not allowed to connect any other devices to the network in the dorm (such as wireless routers, hubs, switches, PDAs, etc). Connecting any of these devices can result in loss of network privileges. Gaming stations are allowed if they are registered with DoIT using the form at http://www.uncp.edu/doit/resnet/game/.

Using a Category 5 LAN network cable, connect the computer to the wall outlet (data port, NOT telephone port). Data jacks are not uniform in color or location within rooms, so the jack you have your computer plugged into may be a phone jack rather than a data jack. Locate and try all jacks in the room.

NOTE: If you get a message that "Your Copy of Windows is not Authentic" during the process, YOU MUST RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH MICROSOFT. It is your responsibility to maintain your computer system.

New students:

You need your network account to register your computer with ResNet. It is the same one you used to log into BraveWeb and register for classes.

Returning students:

Your computer may already be registered. If so, you just need to login to Cisco NAC Agent to get Internet.

However, if you have a new computer, you need to register it with ResNet.

NOTE: You may get the security certificate warning message (see below) when being redirected to ResNet Authentication or download NAC Agent. Click Continue … . It is a safe site.
