the aurochs

UNCP’s Award-Winning Student Literary Magazine

The Aurochs, the student literary magazine of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art by UNCP students.  Publication occurs during the spring term of each academic year.  Assisting with or contributing to this publication is a good way to become involved in the department and the University.

If you are interested in becoming part of The Aurochs staff, contact Dr. Karen Helgeson, faculty advisor for the literary magazine.  Students who register for one of the Literary Magazine Production courses (ENG 2860, 2870, 3860, 3870, 4860, 4870) receive academic credit hours toward graduation; each number is a one-credit-hour course.

Congratulations to The Aurochs, which took Best of Show, Literary Magazine at the North Carolina College Media Association Conference on Feb. 19, 2011. Individual awards were also given to Craig Wilson (Second Place, fiction), Jake Bayog (Third Place, nonfiction), and Oliver Spivey (Third Place, poetry).
