The First Americans’ Teacher Education (FATE) grant program has as its primary goal the production of new American Indian teachers for American Indian communities. The program seeks to increase the number of highly qualified American Indian teachers who will teach in schools with significant American Indian student populations. The program exists to address the shortage of American Indian teachers at all grade levels. Through financial assistance, the grant removes common financial barriers associated with attending a four-year institution. Prospective teachers are prepared for the diverse classroom through a comprehensive plan that includes professional development, licensure exam support, EdTPA support, and induction services for the first two years of teaching.
