Born and raised in Ghana, I graduated from the University of Ghana, Legon, in Spanish and French. After working for one year at the Cuban Embassy in Ghana as translator and interpreter, I returned to the University of Ghana to complete my national service as a Teaching Assistant. I was accepted to the University of Alberta, Canada, in 1990, where I got both my M.A. and PhD in Spanish Literatures. My PhD dissertation, “Cultura e ideología en cuatro novelas de Manuel Puig” was published by Editorial Pliegos in 2006. Before coming to UNC-Pembroke, I taught in the College of Charleston, SC, and Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana.
