CSC 100-01: Introduction to Computers

Description:
The content of this course includes a discussion of computer
hardware, computer software, the history of computing, and typical applications
of computers. A significant amount of time is devoted to such applications as
word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics. Additional topics for
discussion include a brief introduction to computer languages, effects of
computers on society and the individual, data communications, and artificial
intelligence.
Narrative:
This course, in line with General Education
objectives, helps to provide an understanding of the discipline of Computer
Science, and fosters quantitative skills, clear thinking, informed decision
making, and the ability to create and to document technical works. In addition
to covering material in the textbook, the student will spend considerable time
in the computer lab working through tutorials on all the basic business
applications and developing materials of their own. Most of these materials
will be useful to them in everyday life. Please note
that the use of University computers, as well as E-mail and Internet
communications is for University-related business only.
Goals:

presentation, spreadsheet, and database management system.

how to design and implement a simple Web page.

Grading Policy:
You
are responsible for all material covered in class even if you are absent. The
final grade will be a weighted average of the scores in the homework, Web page
project, midterm, and final exam.
Homework is due on Assignment Due Date. Your grade for that assignment is decreased
by 10% if it is one week late. If it is
later than one week, you get a score of zero.
