CSC 465-01: Database Management Systems

Description:

The content of this course includes a discussion of goals of DBMS including data independence, relationships, logical and physical organizations, schema, and subschema. Hierarchical, network, and relational models. Examples of implementation. Data descriptor langauges. Query facilities. File organization. Index organization. Data integrity and reliability.

Goals:

·        Comprehend database functions.

·        Apply database concepts.

 

Objectives:

By the end of this course the student should be able to:

·        Recognize and define database functions.

·        Evaluate a database management system to determine its capabilities.

·        Create third normal form relations

·        Develop a relational database schema

·        Design and document a simple relational database application

Exams, Homework, and Projects:

This course will have three exams, homework assignments, operating system project, and comprehensive final exam. 

 

Grading Policy:

You are responsible for all material covered in class even if you are absent. The final grade will be a weighted average of the scores in the homework, project, exams, and final exam.  Homework is due on Assignment Due Date.  Your grade for that assignment is decreased by 10% if it is one week late.  If it is later than one week, you get a score of zero.

93 – 100 = A

88 – 89 = B+

78 – 79 = C+

68 – 69 = D+

Below 60 = F

90 –   92 = A-

83 – 87 = B

73 – 77 = C

80 – 82 = B-

70 – 72 = C-

60 – 62 = D-

 

 

Attendance Policy:

Attendance will be checked. To get a passing grade in the course you should attend at least 90% of the classes.
