CHM 298 Assignment #3 (Due Friday, January 27 at 5:00)

Last week you learned someing about the libary's chemistry texts. This week, you will learn something about the library's journal holdings. Suppose that you wanted to look up a particular journal article. How would you know whether the libary has a particular journal? To find out, use the library's journal finder. To access journal finder, go to the library's main page and click on Journal Finder (which is is immediately underneath BraveCat). If you know the name of the journal you are looking for (such as "inorganic chemistry") you can check to see if the library has that particular journal. On the other hand, suppose that you cannot remember the full name of the journal. In this case, an "advanced search" will let you search for journal titles that begin with or contain a certain word. Just for fun, search for journal titles that begin with or contain the word "chem." How many results do you get? How about "chemie?" Lastly, you can browse the library's electronic journals by scrolling down to the E-Journals secttion. Scroll down and click on the "chemistry" link. How many chemistry journals does the library subscribe to?

Here is your assignment. Look up the journal article assigned to you (see the table below). You are given the name of the journal, the volume (or issue) number, and the page numbers. First, determine the library's holdings for the particular journal. Does the library have a print copy? If so, how many years does the library have? Does the library have only electronic copies? If so, when did the "full-text" subscription begin? Look up your assigned article, and record each of the following:

1. The title of the author
2. The authors of the article
3. The institution with which the authors are affiliated

Lastly, pick one of the journals listed below (other than the one assigned to you). Browse until you find an intersting article (and not one already assigned to someone else). Record the journal name, year, volume (or issue) number, page numbers, the title of the article, and the authors of the article.

That's all!
