About 250,000 foreigners are studying at German universities, making it the third most popular host country for international students after the USA and UK.
With over 100 million native speakers, German is the most widely-spoken first language in Europe. The strength of German business and industry and the increasing global activity of German companies and corporations means that the German language is also gaining significance in the international market.

The Film Academy Baden-Württemberg is one of the most renowned international film schools. The project-oriented curriculum triggers learning-by-doing during all the different stages of film and television production. The Pop Academy Baden-Württemberg offers courses in music business and pop-music design. The music business course spans the domain from artistic enterprise to the management of pop music. The pop-music-design course further trains pop musicians, who will create multimedia works of art in all available forms, using electronic production methods, and distribute the works themselves. (Cannstatter Volksfest/Cannstatter Wasen in German). The first official festival took place in 1818 to celebrate the opening of what is now the University of Hohenheim, which was founded to optimize harvests and is now the oldest remaining university with an emphasis on agriculture. From its beginnings the festival was a tremendous success with more than 30,000 participants attending in the first year alone. Over the years, the Cannstatter Wasen grew larger and gained regional significance. During the 19th century the celebration lasted only one, later three, then four and five days in the 1920s. At the start of the 1950s the festival was extended to ten, then twelve, and finally 16 days since 1972. First there were only a few festival stands, but by 1860 the arrangement of three main streets and numerous side streets, as it is still organized today, was introduced to handle the ever-increasing number of visitors. The Stuggart Festival usually takes place in September/October.
