The Department of Mass Communication is a liberal arts program offering tracks in Broadcasting, Communication Studies, Journalism, and Public Relations.
We employ a balance of theory and practice in the study of mass communication. Graduates from our program have the option to pursue professional careers in their chosen field or to pursue graduate studies in the discipline.
Professional & Graduate School Preparation
We emphasize a strong liberal arts education and rigorous professional preparation for students planning careers in mass media and media-related fields. Courses in our program frequently utilize hands-on experiences to simulate working in professional environments. All students are required to take an internship with a business or organization related to their chosen track. Students are also required to take courses offering theoretical perspectives and research methodologies within the field to prepare them for entrance into graduate programs. Learn about what some of our alumni are up to by downloading the PDF below.
Student productions
Our students benefit from the hands-on experiences they find through our broadcasting studio, skills-based courses and The Pine Needle campus newspaper.
