Jazz STUDIES

The Jazz Studies program at UNC Pembroke is under the direction of Aaron Vandermeer (trumpet). Other jazz faculty members include Dr. Larry Arnold (bass), Derek Day (guitar), and Pat Petrillo (drum set). The program features a large ensemble, jazz choir, and jazz combos in various styles. In addition to the courses required for a Minor in Jazz Studies, we also offer Private Improvisation lessons (MUS 1711).

MINOR IN JAZZ STUDIES (18 hours)

A program designed to equip music majors to perform and teach music in the jazz idiom.

 MUS 1040 Jazz Appreciation (3 hrs)
 MUS 2360 Improvisation I (2 hrs)
 MUS 2370 Improvisation II (2 hrs)
 MUS 3460 Jazz Composition (2 hrs)
 MUS 4060 Jazz Pedagogy (3 hrs)
 Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Choir (1 hr x 6 semesters)
