2007 High School Honor Band
Now in it's 33rd year the University of North Carolina at Pembroke is pleased to announce it's 2011 UNCP Honor Band to be held on the UNCP campus Saturday March 26, 2011. The honor band festival features bands for middle and high school students and is an opportunity for students to work with some of the world's best conductors and clinicians. Students are nominated for membership by their director. During the day there are also special sessions for directors, ranging from clinics to reading sessions.
Robert Sheldon will be the guest conductor for the high school band at this year’s UNCP Honor Band. The UNCP Honor Band involves over 200 public school band students from over 60 public schools. This year, the event is on March 26, 2011.
Robert Sheldon (b. Feb 3, 1954) has taught instrumental music in the Florida and Illinois public schools, and has served on the faculty at Florida State University where he taught conducting and instrumental music education classes, and directed the university bands. As Concert Band Editor for Alfred Music Publishing, he maintains an active composition and conducting schedule, and regularly accepts commissions for new works. Sheldon received the Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Miami and the Master of Fine Arts in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Florida.
Registration begins in the lobby of the Givens Performing Arts Center (on the UNCP campus) at 8:00 am, with rehearsals beginning at 8:30 am. The students will rehearse all morning and afternoon, culminating in a concert at 7 pm in GPAC.
There will also be an audition time for seniors participating in the group to audition for entry into the UNCP Music Department !!!!!!
