October 1, 2017

Dear Prospective Graduate:

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! To make your commencement ceremony an impressive and unforgettable event, you are asked to very carefully read all of the following information.

The Spring Commencement will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Bell Tower Quad on the UNCP campus.  This is on the grass between Old Main and the Mary Livermore Library.

Promptly at 8:30 a.m. candidates for the Bachelor’s degree should report to the Auxiliary Gym located in the Jones Athletic Center to line up by college or school, then by degree.  PLEASE BE ON TIME, AS ALL CANDIDATES MUST LINE UP ACCORDINGLY.

Family and guests may start seating at 9:00 a.m. on graduation day.  All guests should be seated no later than 9:45 a.m.

During the ceremony, University marshals will lead the candidates to the stage where the names will be called, a degree cover given, and congratulations offered by Chancellor Robin G. Cummings.  Candidates will be asked to stand while the Chancellor confers the degrees. Diplomas will be mailed in July 2017 after the spring semester grades are processed and diplomas have been printed.

Honor cords for Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Cum Laude graduates will be distributed to the Bachelor’s degree candidates prior to the line-up in the Auxiliary Gym. Those undergraduate students tentatively receiving any of these honors will be contacted by email and mail before graduation.

All candidates for degrees are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony. However, if you choose, you may request permission to graduate in Absentia.  Attached is the absentia card that must be submitted along with a check for $3.50 for postage no later than November 20, 2017 to Mrs. Charlotte Schmidt Registrar’s Office, UNC Pembroke, Post Office Box 1510, Pembroke, NC 28372.

Five (5) admission tickets for each candidate have been reserved for the Winter Commencement.   Tickets will be available in the Registrar’s Office (except for November 23rd and 24th which are holidays).  Tickets must be picked up by Friday, December 1, 2017.

Candidates who do not attend the Grad Finale may pick up their caps and gowns at the UNCP Bookstore. Caps and Gowns will not be available after graduation. The UNCP Bookstore will be open Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Generic graduation announcements and graduation accessories will be available after Grad Finale.
