Dr. Howard Ling to lead UNCP’s MBA program
Under the direction of Dr. Howard G. Ling, UNC Pembroke’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program continues to build on its strengths.
Dr. Ling was named director of the MBA program during the Spring Semester. He said the program is flexible and student-centered.
“Many of our students are working adults seeking to enhance or change careers,” Dr. Ling said. “We offer evening classes with a mix of classroom experiences from online to traditional and hybrid.”
To meet the needs of its region, the MBA program offers classes at three locations – in Southern Pines at Sandhills Community College, in Fayetteville on Ft. Bragg and on the main campus. Students may enroll at any time and may graduate in as little as 18 months.
“We have a very high quality program that is one of the most affordable in North Carolina,” Dr. Ling said. “With classes of 10-15 students, it is a very personal experience.”
The program continues to evolve to meet the challenges of a changing business environment, he said.
“We constantly redesign the program to reflect the contemporary challenges in corporate and non-profit management,” Dr. Ling said. “We’ve increased emphasis on entrepreneurship, international business and supply chain management, and we offer a hands-on consulting experience with local companies.”
The MBA program consists of eight required courses and four electives that students may “customize to meet their own needs and interests,” Dr. Ling said.
Dr. Ling earned his Ph.D. from Old Dominion University, a Master of Business Administration degree from UNC Charlotte and Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College.
In his eighth year at UNCP, Dr. Ling teaches international business and marketing strategy. He is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Society for Marketing Advances, the Academy of International Business and the National Association of Purchasing Management.
He has received several faculty grants to develop interdisciplinary and online courses. Dr. Ling is active in service to the University, having served on committees for the Esther Maynor Honors College, International Programs, Business Curriculum and International Business Programs among others.
