The Concerto Competition Winners and a 125th Celebration composition, presented by the Department of Music’s Concert Band and Orchestra, will be held Sunday, April 28, at 8 p.m. in the Givens Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The competition, in its 12th year, will feature student solo performances with band/orchestral accompaniment and the premiere of a piece commissioned for UNCP’s 125th anniversary celebration.

The UNCP Chamber Orchestra and Concert Band will combine to create a full orchestra to accompany two of the concerto competition winners.
Composer James Hosay’s “Sing, Pray, Shout: A Lumbee River Revival,” commissioned for UNCP’s 125th celebration, will be premiered by the Concert Band. The work highlights the influences of gospel music in the area and the importance of Lumbee River.
