UNC Pembroke has been recognized as one of 2024's Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, the leading publication focusing on news and issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.

The annual report, developed in partnership with ACPA (also known as the College Student Educators International), is published in the 40th-anniversary edition of the magazine.

Dr. Jeff Howard, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, acknowledged the work and commitment of the division staff who work daily to build a community of care and support for students.

"This recognition is because of the dedication of our employees to build an environment of challenge and support, which allows our students and staff to strive for excellence every single day," Howard said.

UNCP was one of only 22 universities nationwide to receive the prestigious recognition. The honor highlights institutions offering a family-friendly environment, competitive salaries and benefits, a diverse workplace, professional growth and development support and a dynamic culture and environment, among other attributes.

As assistant vice chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Crystal Moore has the opportunity, almost daily, to directly impact students' lives, support their personal and academic growth and contribute to the overall campus community.

“It’s been a rewarding experience,” said Moore, who has worked in Student Affairs at UNCP for over 12 years.

“Our division provides the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic environment where innovation, collaboration and excellence are encouraged and expected. And we are provided resources to support our professional trajectory. I am very proud to be a part of the UNCP staff!”

UNCP was recognized at the ACPA national conference in Chicago held March 18-21. Dr. Lawrence Locklear and Sam Hauser, who are with the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity, attended and accepted the award on the division's behalf.

The Division of Student Affairs at UNCP works to engage each student in a unique, inclusive campus community focused on their development, support, and success through a holistic approach to student engagement, the Brave Experience, encompassing four dimensions––belonging, community, learning and wellness.

In its 10th year, Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs is a national recognition that celebrates student affairs workplaces that are vibrant, diverse, supportive and committed to staff work-life balance, professional development and inclusive excellence.
