University of North Carolina at Pembroke officials announced today that Charlotte philanthropist Irwin Belk has donated $250,000 to help construct an athletic complex on campus. The gift represents the largest cash gift in the history of the university.
On Friday at their 1 p.m. meeting, the UNCP Board of Trustees will officially name the Track and Soccer Complex for Mr. Belk. They are also expected to name the track itself the Dick and Lenore Taylor Track for the Lumberton, N.C., couple
A band of 10 Russian educators weathered Tropical Storm Kyle Friday, Oct. 11, during a visit to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. They did not complain about weather.

The Office of Student Activities of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced the 2002-2003 Distinguished Speaker Series. The line-up includes James Earl Jones and Henry Winkler.
Chancellor Allen C. Meadors welcomed the largest freshman class and the largest student body in the history of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke during Convocation ceremonies Wednesday, Aug. 28.
"Welcome to the fastest growing university in the UNC system," Chancellor Meadors said. "When this year's seniors arrived on campus we had about 2,900 students, and they will graduate from a university with more than 4,300. That's an increase of 48 percent in just three years."
