Enrollment at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke surged to an all-time record in the spring semester 2005.

The record enrollment of 5,132 compared to 5,023 in the fall semester represents a 2.2 percent increase. The news came as a pleasant surprise after graduating more than 500 students at Winter Commencement.

Chancellor Allen C. Meadors made the announcement at the February 25 meeting of the UNCP Board of Trustees.

A biotechnology project that will promote education, research and business development was announced February 9 at a press conference at COMtech.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) asked The University of North Carolina at Pembroke to once again study the use of its American Indian athletic logo and nickname.

UNCP’s mascot is a red-tailed hawk, and its nickname is “the Braves.” The athletic logo incorporates both hawk and Brave images.

It was David vs. Goliath.

Pitted against some of the nation’s top universities, four UNC Pembroke undergraduates finished 3rd in a regional business competition. The team won $1,500 for their strong showing in the invitational showcase event.

With a large crowd of family and friends on hand, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke dedicated the English E. Jones Health and Physical Education Center on Feb. 2.
