Chancellor Allen C. Meadors announced that 414 students made the Chancellors/Honors List at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke during the fall semester. A grade point average of 3.7 for a minimum of 15 hours is required to be placed on the Chancellors List and a grade point average of 3.2 is required for the Honors List.

Some talented new faces will surround UNC Pembroke's Chancellor Allen C. Meadors in the New Year.

A full-time university attorney and a new special assistant have been added to the Office of the Chancellor.

The university community is saddened by the loss of retired faculty member Dr. David K. Kuo. He was killed in a car-related mishap Saturday, Jan. 5 in Cary, where he lived with his wife Dr. Elizabeth Kuo.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Cary Funeral Home, 3700 NW Cary Parkway. Visitation will be after the service.

A native of Taiwan, Dr. Kuo taught in the Biology Department at UNCP from 1966-96. Elizabeth taught geography at UNCP for 29 years.

"A commencement is a beginning," said Dr. Shelby Stephenson in his address to graduates of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. "Every beginning contains a universe of possibilities."

UNCP granted 250 baccalaureate and graduate degrees Saturday, Dec. 15 at Winter Commencement ceremonies at the Givens Performing Arts Center.
