NASPAA Board of Advisors: Our first meeting of the UNCP Pembroke MPA Board of Advisors was held on February 19th in the UC. At the meeting members were given an overview of the MPA program and its growth and regional effect. The Mission of the MPA program is the primary concern of the Board. The Board was also informed of their responsibilities for NASPAA accreditation. The next meeting of the Advisory Board is Thursday, March 18th at 12 noon in the Faculty Dining Room.

MPA Interest Survey: To date we have 40 responses to the MPA survey that was distributed two weeks ago. Since this survey gives us database and interest information it is important to return these surveys ASAP. Results of the survey will be placed in subsequent updates.

MPA Bulletin Board: Please announce to your students that we have an MPA bulletin Board outside the MPA office (Rm. 118, BA building). This board will have information for students on student and post-graduate internships, Pi Alpha Alpha, doctoral programs, upcoming semester course information, general information about the program, and other items of note.

MPA Web site: Please note that the MPA updates are now on the MPA web site. At the moment they are listed as Issue 1 and Issue 2, but that will change after this update is posted. For now you can access updates by going to the site at www.uncp.edu/mpa/ and click on “News and Events.”

Faculty Publications: Congratulations to the faculty for their recent publications:

China Update: Dr. Frank Trapp has returned from teaching MPM 506, Analytical Methods (core) in XuZhou and Dr. William Albrecht has arrived in XuZhou to teach MPM 503, Economic Analysis for Managers (elective).

Ratio of MPA Classes: In the Fall 2003 semester there were 61 graduate course offerings. The MPA program had 12 offerings in Fall 2003. The MPA program was responsible for 20% of all course offerings in the Graduate School. When one considers that there are seven graduate programs on campus, it is obvious that our students are serviced well by the amount of courses available to them.
