It is important to note that the 17 special admit students may represent an addition to the MPA of an additional 10-15 students to date.

Emergency Management Concentration: The EM concentration is off to a strong start with 28 students enrolled in on-campus and on-line courses.  National recognition for our concentration is out on the web and we expect that the EM concentration will attract significant numbers of students.  In the Fall, MPM EM 516, Hazard Mitigation Principles and practices will be offered on-campus and on-line.  Congratulations to Drs. Schneider and Barbee for their continued dedication to this concentration and the MPA program

Exchange Program with Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa: Dr. Schneider is heading for South Africa in July where he will present MPM 550, Public Institutions and Processes, a core course in our MPA and also a core at Nelson Mandela University.  Dr. Henry Wisnick will present the same course for UNCP students at the beginning of the Fall 2005 semester.  Both professors will present part of their course on-site and the remainder on line.  Dr. Wisnick is the Dean of Public Administration at Nelson Mandela.

We are offering one more course than offered this semester (16).  These courses will be posted on our web site at www.uncp.edu/mpa/schedule.htm.

Alumni and Student Association: Lawrence Locklear is continuing to organize the student and Alumni association for MPA students and grads. For information on upcoming events contact Lawrence at lawrence.locklear@uncp.edu.

ALUMNI: Kristy Archer, 2004, A graduate from our MPA program has been hired by the Department of Defense as an investigator

Newsletter Announcement: Please announce to your classes that the Newsletter is posted on the MPA website at www.uncp.edu/mpa then click on “News and Events.” This issue will be the final issue for this academic year. Volume III will begin in the Spring.

China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT): Five students are completing their degree this semester and we hope to graduate these students at May 2005 graduation.

Pi Alpha Alpha: Our annual Pi Alpha Alpha induction dinner and ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00PM in the Chancellors dining room. Chancellor Meadors and Provost Brown will attend.  Please contact Amelia Elk (6637) for your reservations.
