Commencement is a time to consider “paying it forward,” UNC Pembroke Chancellor Kyle R. Carter noted in his charge to the 557 graduates at UNCP's December commencements. A total of 72 graduate degrees were conferred and 485 undergraduate degrees. Braves give up two runs in the ninth; end NCAA run

Three outs away from a win that would advance them to a rematch against Mount Olive, the UNCP baseball team saw themselves blow a two-run lead that ended their season and allowed Francis Marion to move on after a 5-4 walk-off win late into the night May 21 in the NCAA Southeast Regional.

The UNCP baseball team left 11 runners stranded on the base paths throughout the game, and the No. 7 Braves fell to No.2 Mount Olive 7-3 in the NCAA Southeast Regional on May 21, forcing UNCP into an elimination game later in the day.

Braves score late run to beat Catawba in NCAA Regional quarterfinals

A hard shot of the bat of UNCP senior Kenny Mickens in the eighth inning resulted in an error by the Catawba third baseman and scored junior Aaron Parnell, giving the No. 7 Braves a 4-3 win over No. 19 Catawba in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Southeast Regional on May 20.

Bagley's two-hit gem gives Braves first NCAA win

Senior pitcher Josh Bagley threw a complete game, two-hit shutout and fellow senior Keith Whitman blasted two home runs as the No. 7 Braves beat 14th-ranked Columbus State 6-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeastern Regional on May 19.

A total of 673 students were graduated from UNCP May 6-7. The occasion marked a milestone in UNCP history with separate commencements. The undergraduate ceremony was on the quad between Old Main and the Mary Livermore Library at 9 a.m. May 7 after the graduate ceremony was held in GPAC at 7 p.m. May 6.

Men's track and field team takes first place at NCAA Division II Southeast Regional
