‘The Hawk’ flies frequency over web

UNCP’s campus radio station “The Hawk” has had a successful run; the program has grown since its first airing last year.

The station plays contemporary hits radio. They are the songs on the top of the charts and what is being played on most radio stations.

“It consists of a wide variety of music. We play everything from Coldplay to Lil’ Wayne,” said senior Andra Hale, program director and broadcasting major.

“It reaches...a big audience and is real eclectic mix of the best music out today,” he said.

For this year, Hale has plans to expand the radio so that more students will become aware of it and use it as a learning tool.

Last semester Hale was a host on “Train Wreck” a radio show that aired once a week on “The Hawk.”

This semester he has a new, untitled show with student body president Hannah Simpson and student Nate Howard. “The Brunch” will return again this semester with hosts Bethanie Bean, Matt Kennedy and Dakota Wilson. “We definitely want students to listen, but the joy of being on the web goes beyond that,” Hale said. Students can access the station by visiting www.uncp.edu/wncp-radio and clicking on the pop-up player. They can also type in the keyword “WNCP” in the Google search engine.

Students who want to get involved in the station can e-mail Hale at andra.hale@yahoo.com.
