UNCP’s campus television station, WNCP-TV, has an ambitious schedule of shows lined up for the fall semester.

A show of special interest will be complete live election night coverage of the presidential election in November.

“The show is a first for us. We’ll start with a newscast at 7 p.m. and then 30 minutes later, we will begin updating the graphics to keep up with the election returns by state,” said Mass Communication Department Chair Dr. Jamie Litty. The special election night program will be produced by the broadcast journalism class at UNCP.

WNCP-TV’s news program, “Carolina News Today,” will continue airing during the fall semester.

“Carolina News Today,” produced this semester by senior broadcasting major Jennifer Casper, consists of a traditional news cast complete with national, state and local news stories.

Among the entertainment shows is “One Mic,” a standup comedy show featuring local talent and produced by students in the mass communication department. The show is produced by broadcast majors Andra Hale and Dennis Douglas.

A returning show, “One Mic” has appealed to audiences in the past.

“They’re going to have a studio audience and everything,” Dr. Litty said.

In addition to “Carolina News Today” and “One Mic,” WNCP-TV plans to broadcast numerous athletic games.

“We’ll be doing a select number of volleyball games and a couple of soccer games. I don’t believe we’ve done soccer before,” Dr. Litty said. In conjunction with the Distinguished Speaker Series at UNCP, the mass communication department plans to interview the speakers as they have in previous years. Many notables have been interviewed by WNCP-TV?in the past, including Henry Winkler, Bob Woodward and Rita Moreno.

“We’re hoping that we’ll be able to interview Arianna Huffington and Patch Adams this semester, but nothing is confirmed yet,” she said. Dr. Litty also plans to air coverage of the Lumberton Christmas Parade. “We’ll have a crew and take the truck out for that,” she said.
