Helping students to ‘beat the college blues’

By Christina Sanchez
Staff Writer

Feb. 24 was the last Beating the College Blues meeting for this semester. These personal growth groups met on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. in the UC.

“It is a presentation to learn a little bit about the whole continuum of feelings,” said Dr. George Gressman, director of the program.

The group focused on how individuals were really feeling, trying to differentiate whether they were just down or depressed. The students were there to try and understand their own feelings and to learn how to deal with them.

“Through these kinds of programs we hope to let students know that the counseling center isn’t a scary place, just people to talk to when you are having problems,” said Gressman. “We are here, and that’s what we are here for.”

If you are bummed out because you missed the Beating the College Blues meetings you can always stop by and talk with a counselor.

A good session to attend if you missed out on Beating the College Blues will be the April 28 “Am I Normal?” presentation.

It will be at 7 p.m. in the UC room 213 as a part of the WoW: Workshops on Wednesdays series. This program is to help people cope with their range of emotions.
