On Saturday, Sept. 6, CAB presented Comedy Fest in GPAC, which featured
comedians Melanie Comarcho, Arnold Acevedo and Gary Owen.
Comarcho has been on
BET, and opened for Chris Tucker and Martin Lawrence. She said she
was “dared” to try and become a comedian and has since
been one for about 10 years. According to her, the profession isn’t
easy, like some think.
“The biggest challenge
is trying to handle mother hood and comedy,” Comarcho said.
During her time on stage
Saturday, Comarcho had the audience responding to her tremendously
funny jokes. She joked about UNCP’s location and how she was
attacked by birds while waiting in her dressing room.
The second comedian of
the evening was Acevedo, who has been a comedian for about 10 years.
He started as a “class clown” and worked his way up.
Acevedo’s jokes
ranged from the lack of parties on campus to people claiming they
drink non-alcoholic beer for the flavor.
The final comedian to
come on stage was Gary Owen. He has been a comedian for about 7
years and starred in“Daddy Day Care.”
“I was in the service
and people said I was funny so I started telling jokes,” Owen
said.
Owen captivated the audience
with his jokes, which ranged from the song “In Da Club,”
by 50 Cent, to the small town of Pembroke and that the town has
no hotels. He joked about how UNCP has an athletic stadium but no
football team.
Overall, the
comedy show received a positive reaction.
