Roadtrip to the Carolina Panthers Game

By Myra Frederick
Staff Writer

On Sunday, Sept. 28, some UNCP students will have the pleasure of going on a road trip to Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, to watch the Carolina Panthers take on the Atlanta Falcons. The road trip is being sponsored by Student Activities.

This is Student Activities’ second year of sponsoring the trip.

Abdul Ghaffar, director of student activities, said that they have already given out all of the 14 tickets that they had to interested students.

Ghaffar appeared to be in shock at how eager the students were to get their tickets.

“This was the most excitement about a game that we’ve ever had,” Ghaffar said. “Student Activities did not do any advertising for the future trip, aside from putting the event on the student calendar.”

Ghaffar also said that the tickets were very hard for Student Activities to get. He hopes that they will be able to get more tickets next year.

The purpose of the trip is to give students a chance to get away from campus for a weekend.

Although the football game does not start until 4:15 p.m. that Sunday, the students will leave campus around 11 a.m. to make their two hour journey. The students will be traveling in a mini-van.

“They want to try and get there early so the students can get a feel of the football atmosphere,” Ghaffar said.

The students will really get a feel of the football atmosphere as the Panthers try to maintain their current hot streak, being 2-0, and as the Falcons try to win their second road game and improve their season record, which is currently 1-2.

Unfortunately, Falcons superstar Michael Vick will not be in action, due to a broken right fibula.
The students should also expect to see a good game since the Panthers have had a week off since their last game on Sept. 14.

After the game is over, the students will leave en route back to UNCP. They may stop on the way back to get something to eat, but Ghaffar said that they would probably get something to eat at the game.

The students should finally return to campus Sunday night around 9 or 10 p.m., after their exciting and sure to be in teresting road trip.
