An exclusive look: The Pembroke Mix Tape

By Erin Berry
Guest Writer

There are musically inclined individuals who dabble in musicianship, the art of producing music and the act of actually playing a musical instrument. If one were to combine all three of these together, they would have an explosive project on their hands.

Even with a broken wrist, Devin Daniels a.k.a. “Deez the Disciple” still has the motivation to write rhymes. Meanwhile, Terrance Williams sits at his computer making the last changes to his masterpiece; he too begins to write down lyrics.

In this two-man dorm room, amid a Little Tikes basketball goal, two computers, and an array of shoes, headphones, and CDs a hip-hop mix tape entitled The Pembroke Mix Tape is emerging.

With Williams and Daniels engulfed in their work, Donnie Greenly a.k.a. Juice walks in with an attitude of confidence showing that he is ready to “flow.”

“Yo, that’s a sick beat right there, it needs a [guy] like me on it...” says Juice. Everyone in the room laughs and attends to their writing once again. Once finished writing and reviewing his rhymes, Daniels is ready to flow.

The masterminds behind this project are Terrance Williams a.k.a. Cash, Lionel Capers a.k.a. Young LI, and Monte Hailey a.k.a. Xxplicit who are very eager to expose the hidden talent that is present on campus.

The Pembroke Mix Tape is a basic compilation of singers, rappers, and spoken word artists whose talents are put to music that is sampled from mainstream and underground artists.

The beats of this mix tape are manufactured on Terrance’s laptop which he proudly uses and displays.
According to Williams, this is just a mix of people coming together for a good cause. He feels that there is no harm in expressing yourself through writing rhymes and then “spitting” them over a hot beat.

He goes on to further explain that anyone who feels that they may contribute positively to this endeavor is welcome to come and join the team, but Williams stresses that they must be focused.

The Pembroke Mix Tape is due to drop in a dorm room near you on Nov. 4 so go check it out.
