Musician Kenny
Shore will be performing on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in the U.C.
lounge as part of the CAB Coffee House series.
Shore has been
performing for the past 20 years.
In the 1980s
his band, “The Dayroom Monitors,” played in clubs around
North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
When Shore and
his wife began raising their three children he went back to school
and got his master’s degree in social work from UNC-Chapel
Hill.
Although this
slowed down his music career, he never gave up his passion for writing
music and continued to do so.
“I realized
that my heart is in writing music and performing music,” Shore
said. “I began rejuvenating my music career three years ago.”
Shore has been
performing at local colleges over the past few years.
He has helped
UNCP book past coffee house performers Rodie Ray and Claire Holley.
A great highlight
in Kenny Shore’s life was his recent trip to Nashville a short
time after Johnny Cash passed away.
While visiting
the Johnny Cash Hall of Fame, he was interviewed by a local television
station and asked to perform one of his songs on the air.
That same day
he won a drawing for a free guitar.
“I felt
like it was Kenny Shore day in Nashville,” he said.
Jokingly he
said his ultimate goal is for Clay Aiken to perform one of his songs.
At the moment,
Shore is working on publishing some of the songs he has written.
He performs
a variety of music similar to a rollercoaster ride.
Shore calls
his style of music “Psycho-pop-folk-a-billy” because
of the mixture of music he incorporates into his work.
So come on out,
kick back, and listen to some of his great music.
