‘Xxplicit Man’- Monte Hailey

UNCP student Monte Hailey is a man on a mission.

A junior, Hailey is majoring in mass communications broadcasting. As a teenager, broadcasting had always been something he wanted to get involved in.

Hailey has participated in the production of the UNCP news show as an anchor and a reporter. He has a passion to be in front of the camera.

“I want to be a V.J. (video jockey) on a nationwide network like MTV or BET,” Hailey said about life after college. “That is, if my rap career doesn’t take off like I want.”

Clearly, Hailey is taking the appropriate steps toward achieving his dream.

Although he is a full-time student, Hailey is also a rapper.

For the past two years he has been writing in his free time and recording songs on the weekend. His rap name is Xxplicit.

Where does the name come from?

“When I drop my first album,” Hailey said, “ya’ll are gonna know where I got it from and what Xxplicit is all about.”

The experience and knowledge he has gained from mass communications helps him in his music. It taught him to pronounce words carefully so an audience can understand him as well as distributing his music to a mass audience.
