GPAC presents BET comedians

Comedians Rickey Smiley and Gary Owen will perform in the GPAC Feb 5. at 9 p.m. as part of the activities for Homecoming 2005.

Opening for Smiley is Gary Owen who has been to UNCP before marking this year as his third appearance. Owen is also currently the only white comedian to host BET’s “Comic View.”

“[Owen] is so funny,” UNCP student Christina Williams said. “I went to see him the last time he was here.”

Some students already know what to expect from Owen, so it’s up to Smiley to bring something new to the show.

Most students know Smiley as the host of BET’s “Comic View,” and they are expecting him to be funnier than Owen.

“Definitely Rickey Smiley,” said senior Robbie Redic, “He should be funnier than Gary Owen.”

Smiley is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. So, even if he doesn’t keep the crowd laughing, he is guaranteed major support from his fraternity brothers.

With the efforts of the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board, this year’s comedy show promises to bring laughter to UNCP.

Ticket prices range from $15 for the general public to $5 for students. Alumni, staff and faculty tickets are $10.
