Rappers steal the show

While there were nine acts at the last open mic night of the year, three rappers stole the show with their own rap style.
The show started with a small number of students in attendance but hostess Tamika Nolen kept the ball rolling. As students responded to her call and got on stage to sing, more people came in to see what was going on.
About 15 minutes into the show, a rap artist named Alex came to the stage. He called up two others, Mo and Gabe.
With a combination of group and solo acts, the trio stole the show. By the end, more than 40 students were in attendance to watch and hear them perform.
The audience was excited to see the final act, a woman named Vanessa who had sung earlier in the show, come back to the stage to close the show out. She went to the stage and sang a song with two of her friends.
Open Mic nights are one of many activities run by the Campus Activities Board.
The CAB tries to run an event every other Tuesday night, running either an open mic night or a Coffee House series event (depending on booking).
“Students use them to meet others,” said Kelly Velez, CAB board member.
Open mic nights are a great way for students to meet each other at the beginning of the year, with anywhere from 250-300 students attending the first show.
