New opportunities
and events are beginning to form with UNCP’s
skyrocketing diversity. One activity is The Harmony Walk on Sept.
21 from 3 - 4:40 p.m.
The Harmony
Walk will be held in recognition of the International Day of Peace
and celebration of diversity at UNCP.
Festivities
will begin with a program at the Amphitheatre (Water Feature) followed
by a presentation from guest speaker N.C. Secretary of Administration
Gwynn Swinson.
Swinson was
the Associate Dean of Admissions at Duke
University and a member of the U.S.
Department of Justice be-fore entering the N.C. state government.
After Swinson’s
speech, students will be invited to march in celebration of UNCP’s
diversity.
The Harmony
Walk will conclude on the U.C. Lawn where students will be invited
to spread peace through community service.
Students will
be given the opportunity to sign up for several organized community
service projects that need volunteers as well as mingle with other
students, faculty, staff and community members.
Free pizza and
drinks will be offered and peace pins will be given to students
who sign up.
The Harmony
Walk is co-sponsored by Student
Activities, Disability Support
Services and The Office of
Multicultural and Minority Affairs.
