On Oct. 12 UNCP students gathered to hear the acoustic folk sound
of self-made musician and composer, Tad
Dreis. The performance was part of the Campus
Activities Board’s Coffeehouse Series.
Dreis
performed to an attentive crowd who were treated to pizza and fruit
punch as they sat in the UC
lounge. Dressed in an olive green polo shirt and light blue jeans,
Dreis complimented the mellow and simplistic atmosphere of the night.
Dreis is a jack
of many trades, whose spectrum of talents range from singer to songwriter.
He grew up in Texas and went to school at UNC-Chapel
Hill.
There he began
exploring the music of John Fahey and became acquainted with the
classical guitar. He built a studio in his apartment and to date
has completed two self-released albums.
CAB co-chair,
Kelly Velez, said that Dreis was handpicked by CAB students during
their annual convention last year.
His sound was
exactly what they were looking for. All the food was provided by
CAB students.
Velez pointed
out that creating a “coffee house” scene was their goal,
but since weather was still hot, pizza and punch were provided.
