According to the daily crime report on April 17, multiple vehicles in Lot 13 located behind Oak Hall had been broken into. The first incident was reported at 5:58 p.m. Reports were filed by campus police; however, there has been a complaint made that the owners of the vehicles were not informed.
The second incident occurred in Lot 13 around 3:10 a.m. on April 18. The victim’s passenger side front window was broken and the radio was taken out of the vehicle.
In the second breakin, the radio was taken from the dashboard. The interior light was taken off the ceiling and destroyed. The glove compartment had also been ransacked. Campus police brought in a suspect April 23. The case is under further investigation.
A report given to junior Grant Merritt stated that the report was written April 18 at 3:14 a.m. The report states that a blunt object was used to gain entry into the vehicle.
However, Merritt was not notified about the incident. Merritt found out about the breaking and entering on April 22.
Merritt took his complaint to Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Diane Jones. Merritt was concerned why campus police did not notify him. Another concern was why students weren’t alerted about the break-ins by an e-mail warning.
On April 18, campus police responded to two similar calls regarding breaking and entering. The first incident occurred in Lot 26 of Village Apartments at 9:40 p.m.
Police arrived on the scene to find the victim’s passenger side rear window broken out. No items were stolen out of the vehicle.
