California candidates race for office

By Karen Hayes
Staff Writer

In the lead for position for governor of California we have Arnold Schwarzenegger, followed by current Gov. Gray Davis, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, Sen. Tom McClintock, Peter Ueberroth, Gary Coleman and of course, the porn star, Mary Carey.

These are just a few of the contenders that the public knows about because of the media circus.

There are a total of over 130 candidates hoping to become the new Governor of California.

This is after Republican businessman Bill Simon withdrew from California’s recall election because he felt there were to many Republicans in the main running. It is more like there are too many candidates in general. Truthfully, who are all of these people and what makes eligible to become Governor?

Out of those listed above, only three of them have any political background. Davis, however, doesn’t have the greatest track record. Even the California Democratic Party does not see him in the best light.

Lt. Gov. Bustamante is in the running only because he feels that Davis might lose to Schwarzenegger and does not want to see the Republican Party win this race.

The Republican Party, however, nominated Sen. Tom McClintock who seems to be just about the only person running in the race for logistical reasons.

California has always stood out as strange and unusual and this political race seems to fuel its odd reputation.
