Travis Daniels is really strong. And not just in the physical sense.The senior running back set a new school record with four rushing touchdowns while totaling 147 yards as the UNCP football team erased an early deficit and defeated visiting Glenville State 42-34 on Sept. 24.

Both the UNCP men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2011 seasons on Sept. 2 in the 5K Gamecock Invitational, and both sets of Braves brought home first place finishes in the event.

The third time was still not the charm for Fayetteville State, as two late fourth quarter scores pushed the UNCP football team past the Broncos with a 33-27 win in the third annual Two Rivers Classic as both teams opened their 2011 seasons Sept. 3 in Fayetteville.

A 41-38, double overtime thriller made it a rivalry. A 39-0 thumping gave the Braves control of the series. A third-straight win in the third installment of the Two Rivers Classic would give the UNCP football team firm control over regional bragging rights over Fayetteville State.

Before the UNCP football team's final game of their 2010 season, 22 seniors were honored before the game. After the 17 point loss, those same 22 seniors walked off the field for the last time and left a gaping hole in the Braves program.

After 30 years of leading the UNCP men's and women's track and field teams, Larry Rodgers announced his retirement on June 28. Rodgers has been the UNCP track and field program's head coach since the 1981-1982 season, which ultimately became the only head coaching job Rodgers held.

The UNCP baseball team received the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Regional and will take on a familiar opponent, 4th-seeded Columbus State from the Peach Belt Conference, in the opening round on May 19 with an early first pitch of 11 a.m. at Scarborough Field.

Diamond Braves capture PBC Title

The UNCP baseball team tallied four straight wins over five days in Columbus, Ga., culminating with their first ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship on May 12 after beating Augusta State 2-1 in the Braves first trip to the tournament’s title game.

The UNCP baseball team wrapped up the regular season portion of its 2011 with five wins in seven days, beginning with a blowout win over St. Andrews on April 25 and finishing the week by grabbing their third win of the season against Barton May 1.

UNCP offers 16 NCAA Division II sports, eight men's and eight women's teams, that compete in the Peach Belt Conference. The PBC is regarded as one of the toughest Division II conferences in the country in multiple sports.

Just 17 total first half points and a 15.2 shooting percentage in the opening period were too much for the UNCP women's basketball team to overcome, falling 80-53 to fourthranked Lander in the opening round of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference tournament on March 2.

•Braves sweep PBC foe Flagler in series

UNCP's dynamic baseball team swept Flagler in a three game series March 12 and 13. The Braves took game one 4-3 in dramatic fashion thanks to a Joe Mangum walk-off double before tallying 17 runs in game two and rallying back for a 8-4 win in the series finale.

•Braves cross country garners all-academic honors

Four individual UNCP cross country student-athletes were recently named to the USTFCCCA Division II Cross Country All-Academic teams released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the UNCP women's cross country team as a whole was named to the USTFCCCA 2010 Division II Cross Country All-Academic Team.
