GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Total General Education Requirements: 44 Semester Hours + 1 Semester Hour for FRS 1000

I. Communication Skills (6 or 9 hours)

  • ENG 1050, 1060 (SPE 1020 if not exempted)

II. Academic Content and Skills

A. Arts and Humanities Division (12 hours) Choose one course from each of these four (4) areas:

  • Fine Arts: ART 2020, 2050, 2080, 2090; THE 2500; MUS 1020, 1040, 2940, 2980
  • Literature: ENG 2010, 2020, 2030, 2050, 2060, 2080, 2090, 2100, 2230, 2240, 2470, 2480; (AIS) ENG 2200, ENG 2190
  • History: HST 1010, 1020, 1140, 1150; HST(AIS) 1100, 1110
  • Philosophy and Religion: PHI 1000, 1010, 2040; REL 1300, 1080, 2050

B. Social Sciences Division (9 hours) Choose one course from three (3) of five (5) areas:

  • Economics: ECN 1000, 2020, 2030
  • Geography: GGY 1010, 1020, 2000; GGY (ECN) 2060
  • Political Science: PSPA 1000, 1010
  • Psychology: PSY 1010
  • Sociology: SOC (AIS) 1050; SOC 1020, 2090
    Honor College Students only: (for courses in two disciplines): HON 1000, 2750

C. Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division (9 hours) Natural Science: (6 hours); choose one course from two (2) of the four (4) areas: Students selecting Physical Science 1100 must select the other course from either Biology or Geology.

  • Biology: BIO 1000, 1030, 2100
  • Chemistry: CHM 1300, 1400
  • Geology: GGY (GLY) 1150; GGY (PHS, GLY) 2460
  • Physical Sciences: PHS 1100,1560; PHY 1000, 1500, 2000
    Honor College Students only: (for one natural science course): HON 1510

Mathematics: (3 hours); choose one course from the list below:

  • Mathematics: MAT 1050, 1070, 1080, 1090, and 2150, 2210

III. Physical Education and Wellness (2 hours) Choose two of the following:

  • PED 1010, 1300, 1310, 1320, 1330, 1340, 1350,1360, 1370,
    1380, 1390, 1410, 1450, 1460, 1770, 1790, 1800, 1900, 1950; MSC 1800, PED (THE) 1810 & 1820, PED 1910

IV. General Education Program Electives (6 hours, or 3 hours if SPE 102 required)

  • Choose two (2) courses from different divisions except for the foreign language option. Students who take SPE 1020 for a Communication Skills course will take three (3) hours of electives (not SPE 1000 or 1010).
