Mass Communication Lists

Global Email Lists for Faculty and Staff

Email is one tool used to communicate en masse with specific campus populations. Global email lists are populated to include entire predefined audiences of individuals affiliated with the University. These audiences may include all faculty, all staff, etc. These lists are populated from official systems (i.e. Banner or Active Directory) and maintained by UNCP’s Division of Information Technology (DoIT).

Global email lists are provided to facilitate communication campus wide. Some lists are intended for one way communication only. Others are intended for discussion. To be effective in their intended purpose, the global email lists will follow the standards described below.

Global email lists are governed by the Chancellor and her/his Cabinet in close collaboration with the chair of the Faculty Senate, Chair of the Staff Advisory Council and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Resources and CIO. The CIO will provide the Chancellor and her/his Cabinet, the chair of the Faculty Senate, and chair of the Staff Advisory Council with bi-annual reports on the use of the global email lists. Reports will include metrics on the number of subscribers, number of approved senders, and the volume of messages delivered via the global lists over the course of the reporting periods. These reports will be used to inform future decisions regarding the global email lists.

All requests for sender privileges to the “announcements” lists must be approved by the Chancellor and her/his Cabinet. Requests must be submitted to the DoIT Help Desk at helpdesk@uncp.edu and will be routed through the CIO to the Cabinet for consideration.

Student_All Listserv

The student_all listserv is a list of student email addresses used by the University to distribute announcements, notifications, and other communications to currently enrolled students who are registered for classes. Only approved communications sent by designated offices/parties are allowed. Students are not able to opt out of this listserv.

Students are removed from the student_all listserv at the end of each semester if they are not registered for classes in a future semester.

Students are added to the student_all listserv after they register for classes in a current or future semester.

Other Email Listservs

There you will find instructions for sending an email to that particular listserv and a form for subscribing to the listserv.  Depending upon how the listserv is configured, you may or may not receive a request to confirm your subscription.
