Sexual Harassment Policy and Regulation

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is committed to maintaining a positive learning and working environment for students, faculty, and staff.  Sex/Gender-Based discrimination and harassment detract from a positive environment and is absolutely prohibited.  Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work or educational performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work or learning environment.

The University prohibits Sex/Gender-Based Harassment, to include sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual violence, stalking, and complicity in the commission of any act prohibited by this policy.  Retaliation against a person for the good faith reporting of any of these forms of conduct or for participation in any investigation or proceeding under this policy is also prohibited.  These offenses are unlawful, undermine the character and purpose of the University, and will not be tolerated.

It is the responsibility of every member of the campus community to foster an environment free of these offenses. All members of the campus community are encouraged to take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent or stop the commission of any of these offenses.  The University will support and assist campus community members who take such actions.

Employees or Students who violate these policies may face disciplinary action up to and including termination or expulsion.  The University will take prompt and equitable action to eliminate these offenses, prevent their recurrence, and remedy their effects.  The University conducts ongoing prevention, awareness, and training programs for Employees and Students to facilitate the goals of these policies.

These Policies reflect the University's continued commitment to providing a safe and non-discriminatory environment for all members of our campus community.  They are consistent with the provisions of applicable local and federal laws and are not intended to provide less than required by law.
