ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS
The School of Education is composed of five Academic Departments: The Department of Elementary Education prepares undergraduate teacher candidates to be professional educators in the Kindergarten-Grade 6 learning environment. At the graduate level, the department offers the M.A. Ed degree in Elementary Education. The Department of Educational Specialties offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education and Special Education. Additionally, the Department of Educational Specialties offers on the graduate level the Master of Arts in Reading Education and the Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) license add-on. The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation offers undergraduate programs in Athletic Training, Exercise and Sport Science, Health Promotion, Recreation Management/Administration, and Health/Physical Education (K-12). Masters programs include Exercise and Sport Administration, (MAT) in Physical Education, and a (MA) in Physical Education. The Department of Professional Pedagogy and Research offers both undergraduate and graduate courses that support the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards. Additionally, the Department of Pedagogy and Research offers on the graduate level the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program. The Department of School Administration and Counseling offers the MA Ed. in Professional School Counseling, the MA Ed. in School Administration, and the MA Ed. in Mental Health Counseling.
