As staff dined on Lockwood Locklear’s (Physical Plant-retired) barbecue and the full compliment of Sodexho side dishes, the hard-driving house band pounded out some tunes. The band consisted of John Locklear (Physical Plant) on vocals, George Johnson (Mass Communications) on bass and lead guitars Dr. Michael Spivey (Sociology) and Dr. William Albrecht (Political Science).
Brandi Scott, Young Miss All-American North Carolina, and Alexis Locklear, National American Miss Pre-teen North Carolina, also provided entertainment. Locklear is the daughter of Marla Locklear (Physical Education).
A special feature of the Employee Bash was a dessert bake-off, which was won by Debbie Jacobs (HR) with her “secret recipe” pound cake.
Staff Council President Tony Chavis announced the first scholarship recipients from the Endowed Staff Council Scholarship. Recipients of $100 awards are Genia Rochelle Hunt, daughter of Carol Hunt (Student Services); and Lori Wiggins (Student Health Services).

Auction for Combined Campaign is Oct. 20
The “Partner Up For Those in Need; Let Giving Hearts Soar” silent auction will be held on October 20, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the U.C. Mall. Proceeds will benefit the State Employees Combined Campaign.
Donated items to be auctioned include baked goods, home decor, concert tickets and UNCP Bookstore items. A grand auction item will be announced soon.
