Q1: What is GOOD academic standing?

A: A student's cademic standing is determined by the cumulative grade point average (GPA) earned on the total quality hours. To be in good academic standing, a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 must be maintained.Return to Top of Page


Q2 What is academic probation?

A: Students on academic probation are eligible to attend the university under specified provisions but are not in good academic standing. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 13 semester hours. At the end of your probationary semester a student must have raised the cumulative GPA to 2.0 or earn a minimum GPA of 2.3 on at least 12 semester hours, excluding FRS 1000 and PE activity courses, for the probationary term. If a student does not meet the requirements above, they will be suspended.Return to Top of Page


Q3: What should I do if I am placed on academic probation?

A: If you are placed on academic probation, you should contact your academic advisor and the Center for Academic Excellence immediately. It is important to discuss with an advisor the areas in which you are having problems and to begin to create a plan to get back on track. Q4: It's my first semester on campus, how does it work for me?

A: First semester freshmen and transfer students who earn below a 1.5 in their first semester will be suspended for one semester. Students in this category that earn between a 1.5 and 1.99 at the end of their first semester are placed on probation for one term and must meet the following conditions: Meet with the Center for Academic Excellence to create a success contract that will require monthly meetings with a CAE advisor and mandatory workshop participation. Failure to meet the criteria results in a one semester suspension. Return to Top of Page
