New Student Orientation

Fall 2012 ORIENTATION

New Graduate Student Orientation will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lasting through early afternoon. The orientation session will be held in Moore Hall, which is building 6 on the campus map (www.uncp.edu/map).

The Orientation Session is designed to provide you with critical and timely information to help you to get off to a successful start in the Graduate School at UNCP.

As stated in the UNCP Academic Catalog: “All degree seeking graduate students are strongly encouraged and expected to attend the scheduled orientation session during their first semester of enrollment. Students are held responsible for knowing and understanding the information provided during orientation sessions.” You should make plans to attend.

The orientation session will include an overview of important Graduate School policies and procedures (ignorance definitely is not bliss!), timely information about financial aid, and an introduction to library services that will make your research projects so much easier to complete.  Various University administrators will be on hand to greet the group.

In addition, you will be able to meet with your program director to learn essential information about program-specific procedures, requirements, courses, and instructors.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., meetings with program directors will conclude, and you will be on your own to take care of campus needs.  You may wish to grab lunch before visiting other campus locations.

The Graduate School office will be open from noon until 2:00 p.m. to help you with setting up your student accounts and with registration. This office is located in room 124 of Lindsay Hall, which is across Odum Street/Prospect Road from the main campus. The street address is 200 N. Odum Street, Pembroke, NC 28372. (You will see Lindsay Hall on the right side after you pass Kentucky Fried Chicken and Berea Baptist Church.)

Numerous other University offices that are normally open only during the regular work week will be open until approximately 3:00 p.m. Some of these include the Financial Aid Office, the Cashiers Office, Student Accounts, Business Services (for student IDs: BravesOne Card), Campus Police (for parking permits), and the UNCP Bookstore.

Additionally, an optional Blackboard workshop will be held in room 136 of the Sampson Building (building 24 on the campus map) at 1:30 p.m., led by Dr. Irene Aiken, Associate Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.

All RSVP's are due no later than 2:00 p.m. on August 8 so that we can plan appropriately for the actual number of participants.
