Dr. Katina Blue was four months into her new role as head of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) when the pandemic forced UNCP to move all classes online.

Blue’s staff was tasked with providing technical assistance to faculty, students and to hundreds of employees who were–and remain–teleworking. Blue discussed, in length, how her staff has adjusted to changes and complexities with COVID-19 during a podcast hosted by Dr. Scott Hicks, Teaching and Learning Center director and Dr. Miko Nino, director of the Office of Online Learning.

Before joining UNCP as associate vice chancellor of Information Resources and Chief Information Officer in November 2019, Blue served more than 25 years in various roles in IT leadership, project portfolio management and leading large diverse teams in public sector and higher education. Blue praised her team for being flexible and willing to work extended hours and weekends to meet the needs of staff, faculty and students.

“My staff did an outstanding job in being able to support hybrid and remote teaching and learning and research efforts. We were able to bring online very quickly, technologies that we didn’t have before. We were also having to support teleworking as well as remote learning at a greater level, Blue said.

The success of DoIT during these challenging times wouldn’t be possible, she said, without the collaboration of the departments, schools and offices campus wide.
